The AAPM Member Focus for September 2024 is Trent D. Emerick, MD, MBA.
Dr. Emerick is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and School of Medicine. He currently serves as the Fellowship Director for the Chronic Pain Fellowship and Associate Chief/Medical Director of the Chronic Pain Division.
His full-time practice includes outpatient and inpatient pain medicine, where he specializes in anesthesiology, chronic pain medicine, and addiction medicine.
Dr. Emerick has a deep passion for the mission of the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) and has enjoyed collaborating with its leadership. He currently serves as a board member of the AAPM Foundation, Vice Chair of the Membership Committee, and a member of the PainConnect 2025 annual meeting planning committee.
“Working with AAPM has been incredibly rewarding. The relationships and collaboration within this multidisciplinary organization have strengthened my work in pain medicine,” says Dr. Emerick. His commitment to innovation is evident in his participation as a finalist in the AAPM Innovation Challenge.
Dr. Emerick earned his MD from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed both his residency and fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Additionally, he holds an MBA from Penn State University Behrend and serves as the Designated Pain Specialist for the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers.
Through his work in AAPM and his leadership roles at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Dr. Emerick continues to push the boundaries of pain management, advancing both patient care and education in the field.
